There have been many rape cases reported since the ceasefire. We broadcast four rape cases. The first one happened in T'Naw Th'Ree Township, Mergui-Tavoy District, where a five year old girl was raped by her uncle. The perpetrator was arrested when the girl's aunt found out what happened. The second one happened in Noh T'Kaw Township, Dooplaya District, where a fifteen year old girl was raped by her brother in law. She was taken care of by another woman in the village. The perpetrator was imprisoned for one year and he had to pay 1,000,000 kyat. The third one is a sexual assault that happened in Bilin Township, Doo Tha Htoo District. A teacher sexually assaulted a girl who is mentally unstable. The last rape case happened in Mergui-Tavoy District, where a man raped a young woman who is 23 years old. She was pregnant but there has been no action taken by the authorities. Instead, she was threatened. when she was about to give birth, the authorities made the decision that the perpetrator have to give 4,500,000 kyat and give 1,000,000 kyat every year until the child turns 18 years old.
