Denied and Deprived: Local communities confronting the humanitarian crisis and protection challenges in Southeast Burma.

KHRG’s latest report presents the dire humanitarian crisis in Southeast Burma, focusing on the denial and deprivation of aid and the right to protection that has left villagers in Karen State struggling to access food and essential services since the 2021 military coup. Through interviews with villagers, local leaders, and civil society organisations, the report analyses the challenges faced during humanitarian response, showing how support and aid are being prevented from reaching many rural areas in Southeast Burma, due to deliberate attempts by the military junta to deny lifesaving assistance, combined with barriers encountered by civilians to cross international borders to obtain protection. It also highlights the critical role of local service providers and local communities themselves in responding to the needs of displaced villagers.
