If you are interested in subscribing to the KHRG Podcast or listening to an individual report file but not quite sure how to or what all the podcasting talk really means, please read this help page.

What is a Podcast?

Podcasts are a series of content episodes -- much like a daily news column -- that are typically distributed as audio or video files. Podcasting lets you subscribe to a series of episodes so that the latest is available to you as soon as it is released. The technology that allows you to subscribe to a podcast is called RSS which, according to most sources, stands for Really Simple Syndication. Using an RSS feed URL in your podcast software or RSS reader, you can see when a podcast has been updated with a new episode. The RSS feed URL grabs content from your podcast source and pulls it into your podcast software or reader.

While you can usually play a single episode from a podcast, as an mp3 for example, podcasting is unique because of the ability to subscribe to syndicated content -- that is, all of the episodes from a podcast program. In the case of KHRG, you can subscribe to the KHRG Podcast to receive continuous updates of audio reports, or you can download/listen to individual report files all in mp3 format from the KHRG Podcast page.

How to subscribe

If you want to automatically receive episodes of the KHRG Podcast, you will need podcast software or an RSS reader. Popular podcast software includes iTunes, Juice and Doppler. For popular RSS readers, please visit the RSS Help page. Please note that KHRG makes no endorsement of any of these programs nor takes any responsibility for their use.

You subscribe to the podcast feed by inputting the RSS feed URL into your podcast software or RSS reader. RSS feed URLs are universally recognized by a square orange icon that resembles a speaker. Right click the icon to copy the feed URL.

If you use iTunes, copy the RSS feed URL for the KHRG Podcast. Click Advanced => Subscribe to Podcast and then paste the URL and click OK. Click Podcast in the left panel navigation and then you will see the KHRG Podcast episodes load into the main panel.

If you use an RSS reader, paste the RSS feed URL into the space for new feeds. You can also use the one-click subscription buttons on the KHRG Podcast page. These links were created for those visitors who are already using iTunes or have Google or Yahoo! accounts.

How to listen to an individual report

You can listen to an individual report by clicking the report title on the KHRG Podcast page. Your web browser should open the file in an audio player for you. Alternatively, you could right click on the title, download the mp3 to your hard drive and then open it in an audio player of your choice.
