On September 2nd 2023, at around 2:30 pm, State Administration Council (SAC) soldiers shot E---, a 51-year-old villager from A--- village in Meh Klaw village tract, Bu Tho Township. This Situation Update describes events occurring in Kaw T’Ree (Kawkareik) Township, Waw Ray (Win Yay) Township, and Noh T’Kaw (Kyainseikgyi) Township, Dooplaya District, from February to April 2023. These include challenges related to accessing healthcare in remote areas due to logistical difficulties of transportation to medical clinics and financial struggles. The SAC also increased their military activities, causing large-scale displacement of villagers. On November 2nd 2023, combined troops of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Kaw Thoo Lei Army (KTLA) attacked State Administration Council (SAC) Infantry Battalion (IB) #32 army camp near A--- village, Maw Hkee village tract, Kaw T’Ree Township, by drone, and fighting broke out. We work with local and international human rights stakeholders, ensuring that villagers' voices reach decision-makers who can influence their lives. 

We train community members to document human rights abuses on the ground, which we translate and publish in our reports to share villagers' perspectives.

We train local CBO/CSOs, and ethnic armed organisations in human rights and international humanitarian law to help them prevent and document future abuses.

Our community-level workshops provide a space for villagers to share their experiences, gain knowledge, and develop their self-protection strategies.
