Hpapun Situation Update: Bu Tho Township, February to July 2014

These photos were taken by a KHRG researcher in Kyaw Pah village, Meh Klaw village tract, Bu Tho Township, Hpapun District on June 22nd 2014, where the government had provided subsidies in the form of loans to local villagers. The villagers have to pay 1,500 kyat (US $1.52)[3] interest for every 100,000 kyat (US $101.25) borrowed. They have to repay the principal and interest after six months and then they can borrow again. The villagers must have the support of the village head to be able to borrow this money. The villagers typically borrowed this money not to support business activities but to buy basic food and medical supplies.
